Study Shows Glucomannan Effective Cholesterol Control
Additional findings of this study were a reduction of 21.7mg/dl in serum cholesterol, and 15mg/dl reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the group treated with the Glucomannan.
Another study at the University of Tromso in Norway added several kinds of fiber supplements to a calorie controlled diet for subjects who were overweight. The aim of this study was to compare the differences between some of the fiber supplements available on the market for weight loss.
The supplements tested were Guar Gum, Glucomannan and Alginate. The subjects consisted of one hundred and seventy six healthy overweight men and women. They were given a balanced twelve hundred calorie diet, with either a placebo or fiber supplement. The five-week study showed that all the fiber supplements encouraged a significant weight loss compared with the placebo and diet. The scientists additionally concluded that although Glucomannan brought about weight loss in healthy subjects, adding alginate or guar gum, did not cause the participants to lose additional weight. Again there were no reported side effects.
